JACO

Once upon another place in time, a dog star fell from the sky and landed on the side of the road. I picked it up, kissed a promise into its star heart and, for the next eight years, was graced by the most incredibly cool and highly intelligent creature who ever walked this earth. His name was Jaco (last name Pastorius), fitting for a dog whose wag was all swagger and rhythm and mystical timing.

I like to think Jaco was called back to Sirius so he could share his experience with other dog stars; you know, maybe to assure them that when they fall to earth, it won’t hurt but a minute. Soon, he says to them, if you’re lucky, someone will find you, plant a kiss on your heart, and activate your love. That’s the way it works with people and dogs, according to Jaco. He is a mystic spirit.

Jaco’s favorite people celebrated his beautiful life at Reynolda Gardens, WSNC
The orbs came out to play on Jaco’s well-traveled path in The Gardens. We call it Jaco’s Cut.
